How To Select Photos

Choosing the Perfect Reference Image

Portraits are a very personal gift a memory that lasts a lifetime. Its a lovely way to show how much we love or care for someone.

When selecting a photo to be drawn do select photos that are clear ans high quality. The drawing can only be as good as the photo. I cant emphasise more on clarity.

You can send a few and we can help select the right photo.

Number of Subjects

Depending on portrait size I am able to do 2 or 3 people. More than that will loose clarity as you make each person smaller.

Time Required

Duration of portrait is dependent on size and current workload. Actual Darwing can take anything from 25 hours to 100 hrs.If ordering for an event, anniversary or birthday do allow enough time.

Common Questions About Portrait Commissions

Everything you need to know before commissioning your artwork.

Q1. How do I start a commission?

You can simply get in touch by email with your enquiry. From there we’ll discuss what you are looking for, including size, composition and style. There is no obligation at this stage, just an open conversation to begin with.

Q2. What kind of photographs do you need?

I work from clear, well-lit photographs. Ideally, these should be close-up images that show the subject’s features clearly. I often ask for a few different images so I can understand the subject more fully before starting the drawing.

Q3. Can I request changes during the process?

Yes, I usually share a scan when the portrait is close to completion. At this stage, you can let me know if anything needs adjusting. Small refinements are always part of the process to ensure the likeness feels right.

Q4. Do I need to pay a deposit?

A 20% deposit is required to confirm your order and start the artwork. The remaining amount is paid once the portrait is completed before delivery.

Q5. Do you ship internationally?

Yes, portraits can be shipped anywhere in the UK and internationally. Each piece is carefully packaged to ensure it arrives safely.

Q6. Can I provide old or printed photographs?

In some cases, yes. If a printed photograph is of good quality and detail, it may be suitable. I will always confirm with you before beginning the work.

Q7. Will my portrait be shared online?

Only with your permission. Some clients prefer privacy, and that is always fully respected.

Q8. What happens when the portrait is finished?

Once approved, the portrait is carefully packaged and sent to you. I will confirm all delivery details before dispatch.
